The occupation is transforming earth mounds and concrete barriers into new borders, redrawing the map of the Gaza Strip after they were merely imaginary lines, turning the Strip into a besieged area that shrinks day by day.

In mid-January, the occupation forces began constructing an earth mound starting from the Kissufim axis in Wadi al-Salqa, extending north and south along what is known as the Yellow Line, and later becoming a 17-kilometer-long barrier.

Observers note that the mounds did not stop at the Yellow Line, but extended north to the Netzarim axis, passing through Deir al-Balah and the Maghazi and Bureij refugee camps, then south to the heart of Khan Younis and al-Qarara. Other mounds were also constructed in Beit Lahia, stretching 5 kilometers. With this military-urban expansion, Gaza is no longer divided only on paper, but has been geographically reshaped according to Israeli whims.

According to an Al Jazeera report by its correspondent Abdullah Sukkar, the area available to Gaza’s residents has shrunk to approximately 133 square kilometers out of 365 square kilometers, a reduction of 36%.

This means that nearly two million Palestinians are now crammed into this small area, placing the existing infrastructure and resources under three times their capacity, amidst catastrophic humanitarian conditions characterized by a lack of housing, water, and basic services.

It is not enough to reduce the area, but it “crammed” two million Palestinians into this narrow spot, within an environment that makes them vulnerable to slow death, by preventing the entry of reconstruction equipment and raw materials, and the spread of diseases with rising temperatures.
