The Ministry of Health in Sana’a reported on Sunday that approximately 120,000 cancer patients are facing extremely difficult health conditions due to the Saudi siege imposed on the country’s airports, confirming that the shortage of medicines has reached 60%, with 10 main types of cancer treatments completely unavailable, and 67,074 cases were recorded between 2015 and 2025.Special Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:The ministry’s spokesman, Anis Al-Asbahi, explained during a press conference held by the National Oncology Center that the siege has led to the disappearance of 1,329 types of drugs, including 12 essential types for chemotherapy, and the withdrawal of 83 international pharmaceutical companies from the Yemeni market. He pointed out that 30% of children with leukemia lose their lives due to their inability to travel for treatment, while about 3,000 children suffer from a shortage of medicines. For his part, the director of the National Oncology Center, Abdullah Thawabah, affirmed that the siege has doubled the number of cancer patients by 50%, led to the unavailability of many essential medicines, and caused the withdrawal of international companies from providing them, resulting in delayed treatment, increased complications, and higher mortality rates. The head of the Pediatric Leukemia Unit, Abdulrahman Al-Hadi, explained that the center has recorded 2,300 cases of childhood leukemia since the start of the war and the closure of Sana’a Airport, noting that the shortage of medicines and the remnants of war have contributed to the worsening of patients’ suffering and increased infection rates.Al-Asbahi indicated that 200 children need to travel abroad for bone marrow transplants, and another 200 need targeted therapy abroad, as the closure of Sana’a Airport and restrictions on patient travel continue.
