A hospital administration in Gaza warned that a fuel shortage for generators is threatening the lives of intensive care patients and premature infants in incubators.
The administration of the Friends of the Patient Hospital reported that the main generator could shut down within hours, leading to power outages in vital departments—primarily the incubators and intensive care units—and called for the urgent delivery of fuel.
Dr. Samir Labad, director of the incubators and intensive care unit, told Anadolu Agency that the hospital has been suffering from a severe fuel crisis for about a month, and that the generator is shut down at specific times, forcing them—especially at night—to work in darkness.
Labad emphasized that the oxygen machines in the intensive care and incubators rely on electricity, saying, “A power outage means a cut-off of the oxygen given to the children.” Air conditioning units also stop working, causing temperatures to rise rapidly.
He warned that if the fuel runs out completely, they will be forced to cut off electricity indefinitely—with devastating consequences for babies in incubators—and called on international organizations to deliver fuel as quickly as possible.
