On Saturday, the government media office said that Israel has killed 262 Palestinian journalists and injured 433 since the start of the genocide war on October 8, 2023, causing losses exceeding $800 million to the media sector. This was stated in a press release by the media office on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalist, observed every year on September 26 and established by the International Federation of Journalists in 1996. The statement emphasized that Palestinian journalists, especially in Gaza, are facing “the worst and most brutal campaign of targeting, assassination, and systematic destruction known in contemporary history by the Israeli occupation army.” It explained that this campaign aims to “erase the truth and hide the horrific crimes committed against civilians in the ongoing genocide war.” Since October 2023, Israel has continued a genocide war that has left nearly 74,000 dead and more than 174,000 injured, with massive destruction affecting 90% of civilian infrastructure. Despite a ceasefire agreement in place since October 10, 2025, Israel continues to carry out airstrikes and shootings in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of 1,408 Palestinians and injuries to 4,916 others, including journalists.
Regarding human losses, the statement reported that Israel killed 262 journalists and media workers during the months of the massacre, including 26 female journalists, in addition to assassinating 28 influential media activists.
It explained that more than 433 journalists and media workers have been injured since the start of the war due to being directly targeted.
It mentioned that the occupation army arrested 50 journalists and media workers whose names have been known since the beginning of the war, while it continues to hold 23 of them under ‘harsh conditions.’
It also pointed out that 3 journalists are still considered missing.
In a related context, the statement said that the occupation army exterminated 32 families of the martyred journalists.
