The Samidoun Network for the Defense of Palestinian Prisoners has warned about the escalating assaults and violations against Palestinian female prisoners in Israeli occupation jails, including violent raids, beatings, tear gas spraying, forced removal of the hijab, solitary confinement, and medical neglect. They confirmed that journalist Bushra Al-Taweel has been facing a continuous campaign of isolation and deprivation for about 50 days.
The network said in a statement issued today, Monday, that around 90 Palestinian female prisoners are being subjected to systematic violations due to their journalistic work, human rights activism, student activities, and their attachment to their families, land, people, and right to freedom.
They added that Al-Taweel, 33 years old, is still detained without charge or trial under administrative detention, after her detention order was renewed for an additional four months last week, despite the deterioration of her health and mental state.Al-Tawil was arrested again on February 5, 2026, at a military checkpoint near Ramallah, and then transferred to the Al-Muscobia interrogation center, before being transferred to Damoon Prison and placed in administrative detention. She was repeatedly transferred between isolation facilities, and subjected to beatings, gas sprays, verbal insults, and constant surveillance by cameras. During one of the transfers, two guards beat her on the head with metal handcuffs, causing swelling on the right side of her head, before keeping her handcuffed for two hours in a sweltering cell. Al-Taweel also suffers from scabies and persistent pain in the shoulder, dry eyes, skin, and hands, numbness in the hands as a result of being shackled for long periods, as well as a lack of food, clean water, appropriate clothes, and hygiene supplies, according to the statement. The network reviewed the history of Al-Taweel’s repeated arrests since 2011, noting that she was released twice as part of the “Wafa al-Ahrar” deals in 2011 and “Flood of the Ahrar” in January 2025, before the occupation re-arrested her. She linked her prosecution to her journalistic work and her coverage of the prisoners’ and their families’ cases.In the same context, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate called on international organizations and press unions to intervene to protect Al-Taweel, monitor her health and psychological condition, end her isolation, and release her, urging media organizations to shed light on her case.
